How do you feel about tackling a construction project?
I’ve found that most people want a turn-key property; something that’s already renovated and ready to go. Can I let you in on a little secret? Unless it’s a new build, buying turn-key equals paying for someone else’s renovation.
Chances are you’re still going to change something.
Oh wait, is that just me?
So not only are you paying a higher price, you’ll need to budget for whatever upgrades you’re planning to make.
My husband and I have purchased distressed properties for nearly fifteen years and I can assure you, buying the “not so pretty” property is usually your best bet. Why? Because once you start renovating, anything you do is breathing new life and value into the property.
You’re forcing appreciation.
Okay, I think I’m done ranting.
On to today’s reveal . . .
When we purchased Big Blue, there was a detached garage that was being used as storage but we dreamed of turning it into a movie theatre.
I mean I dreamed of turning it into a theatre but my husband dreamed of making it a pool table room.
By the photos, you can obviously tell who won but that’s okay. He was totally right!
In making something new, I’ve found that it takes imagination, a healthy dose of patience, and some innovation. We have to be willing to imagine that a space can be more than what we see in front of us and do what it takes to get it to the finish line.
What have you been wanting to create or start but have been hesitant?
