Have you ever stopped and asked yourself, “who am I?”
Not in reference to your profession, marital status, or ability to bear a child.
But really considered who am I, or who do I want to be?
I don’t find myself there often, but I can recall at two major intersections of my life, pondering . . .
Who am I?
The answer . . . Whoever I want to be.
I’m not saying that we can be anyone or do anything. I’m sure there’s someone out there that would completely disagree with that last thought, but I’m a strong believer that God creates us with a specific purpose in mind. With a divine calling.
What I mean is, I couldn’t pick the family I was born into. God did.
I couldn’t form the way I was raised. My parents did.
I couldn’t choose the color of my skin or if I’d be male or female. God did that too. Ha!
But what I can choose is how I show up each and everyday. How and if I will believe God’s promises over my life. How I will treat people who come into contact with me. How I will obey when God tells me to speak and when he tells me to move in silence.
It’s interesting to me that we can become a carbon copy of the culture that surrounds us. We begin to speak like the ones closest to us, dress like those we wish to emulate, and believe the encouragement or unfortunately the discouragement spoken over us.
I just want to encourage you today to be authentically you.
Who do you want to be?
How will you treat others?
What impact will your words have while you’re here on earth?
