Our family loves traveling to the mountains.
It’s our place of escape, solitude, and peace. There’s something about hiking the waterfalls, breathing in the mountain air, seeing the fireflies, and enjoying wildlife run free that reminds me of God’s love for us . . . That He invites us into His rest and even created a place for us to do just that.
Every time we’d travel to our favorite “Hallmark,” town in the mountains, we would find a cozy little cabin in the woods. It was on one of these trips that I’d had enough. Why on Earth would we keep traveling to the same area about four times a year and paying for other people’s cabins? In my heart, I dreamed of owning our own cabin.
A place where we could host our family, friends, and strangers alike. Emad and I both come from huge families so I knew whatever we bought, had to at least accommodate one side at a time. After years and year of talking about it, we finally looked at a cabin that needed a lot of love!
It had been on and off the market for some time. If I’m honest, the first time I saw it, I hated it! My response was absolutely not! This thing is not built right.
Well, I wasn’t wrong about that. More on that in future posts.
What most people don’t know about me is that I’ve been designing and renovating homes for over twelve years. I can walk into any space and see what it’s asking for; I immediately get a vision or I don’t. If I can’t see it, we don’t pull the investment trigger.
As much as I hated the initial walkthrough, there were spaces that did in fact speak to me. The land honestly was the loudest. I could sense that these 6 and a half acres really needed to be brought back to life. So when Emad asked me if I had a vision, I sighed and said yes unfortunately.
Ha! I’m not sure how he took that but we put the offer in any way.
After EIGHT MONTHS of driving back and forth from Florida, having shipments lost, tile installed the wrong direction, and on and on, we finally finished! Praise the Lord! I can’t wait to show you the inside but in the meantime, here are some exterior shots of Big Blue.
We’ve loved renting it out to guests on vacation in the mountains and hearing about the peace they experience.
